Except for a few early attempts in my teens and early twenties, I didn't really begin to get serious about writing fiction until October 1996 when I began working in a bookstore during the year I had off (not by my choice) between my master's and doctoral work in history. Although I've always loved reading fiction-and making sporadic attempts at writing (really bad) fiction and poetry-it was difficult to find the time to do either since a vast majority of my time during my twenties was absolutely consumed with trying to achieve my goal of becoming a professor of history. (From age twenty to age thirty, I spent ten years pursuing my former goal to become a professor of history. I have a BA with a major in history and minors in British Literature and German from the University of Michigan-Flint. I also have a MA in history from Indiana State University. I did some doctoral work at Michigan State University but I later decided to leave the program.)

Since 2001, I've been devoting most of my time to trying to turn my former hobby into some sort of viable career as an author. (Ha!) It was only in 2003 that I finally started to send my fictional works out for consideration. Two of my stories were both accepted in one glorious week in October of 2003, and then another one was accepted in May 2004. My ghost story “The Spectral Pipe Smoker” appeared in the 40th Anniversary, Spring/Summer 2004 issue of The Pipe Smoker's Ephemeris, while my parody “A Very Short Sherlock Holmes Mystery” was published in Issue #19 of Happy in March 2005. My horror/humor story “Don't Push the Resurrection Button!” was recently published in Issue #65 of The Nocturnal Lyric in early December October 2005. An article I wrote about the mechanics of addressing and mailing short story and article submissions entitled "It's in the Mail" appeared in the March 2005 issue of Writing Basics, a special issue of Writer's Digest. I'm also currently pursuing getting more magazine and newspaper work.

In addition to my short stories and articles, I've also written a novel that I'm currently seeking representation for called The Return Of Orpheus in which a vampire terrorizes the campus of Michigan State University. (I know, I'd groan too hearing that thumbnail description, but hopefully it's not a totally cheesy piece of work.) I'm currently in the process of revising my second novel Requiem for a Biker that chronicles the weird occurrences revolving around the 21st anniversary of the mysterious disappearance of a local motorcycle gang in the hinterlands of mid-Michigan.
